Not every trip requires a closet full of gear. Maybe you’re commuting, or perhaps a weekend trip upstate on your naked bike is in your immediate future. In that situation, something like SW-MOTECH’s new Urban ABS Side Cases might just be the best choice. With a capacity of 16.5 liters per case, the Urban cases stuff a useful amount of interior volume into a package just 15 inches tall, 14 inches front to back, and 10.3 inches deep.
Instead of relying on floppy straps or bulky racks to mount to your motorcycle, the Urban ABS cases connect to SW-MOTECH’s growing line of SLC side carriers. These compact and durable side racks bolt to your motorcycle’s rear subframe for an unobtrusive and sturdy base. Three buttons on the SLC racks mate to receivers built into the backs of the Urban ABS bags; no extra parts to buy.
As a side opening design, the Urban case uses a zipper across four of the five faces so that it can open and lay flat. But there are also gussets and retaining straps along the lower edges so the lid opens only 90 degrees while on the bike. That’ll keep your stuff from falling on the ground.
While the shell is durable abs plastic, the interior has a padded polyester lining to protect your stuff. The urban cases are water resistant but not waterproof, so to keep your belongings dry, each case comes with a fitted dry bag.
What about security? Each bag also comes with a combination lock for threading through the zipper pulls for security. To make sure the bags can’t easily be stolen from the bike, a clever rack-locking mechanism is hidden inside the bag. When you install the bags you’ll hear a definite click as the bag fits into place but you can also check the upper latch for a visible red dot; if you can see it, the bag is not fully latched.
Other neat features include reflective piping around the zipper for conspicuity at night and inset carrying handles that let you carry two cases in one hand.
The Urban ABS cases are available now, with SLC side carriers available for a wide range of motorcycles.
